This thread is to help some of you who are interested in organizing a chat time. Maybe we can come up with a once a week time initially to get things started. Eventually the chat room will be improved, but just bear with us for now.

Any decision on a chat time? With 120+ views of this thread there seems to be some interest, including me. Or do you know of an already popular time for the chat room. I've checked a few times and no one is there.

I'd like to do an evening chat! Anything going on yet?

I would be interested in meeting to chat with other members! Has there been a time set up yet? Did you mention something about this Friday or Saturday, does that mean June 21st or 22nd? How do you enter the chat room? Please post details about it and I will try to make it anytime there is one scheduled!

Thanks,
Paige w/Simon, 3.5 yo, ASD

Hi SimonsMom,
Chatting is pretty easy, just click the "chat" button at the top of the page. That's it, just wait for the files to load, the script should log you in with your user name and you can chat from that point on. The first time the chat applet loads into your browser it will take a while, but once the files reside in your browser cache loading it will be much faster. That is unless you clear your internet files often, which isn't a bad idea, it will just have to download the chat applet files again. To chat all you have to do is type in the bottom window and hit enter. I will try to add more detailed help in the FAQ section.

If arranging a chat schedule becomes difficult, or not convenient for some, the following is a link to a chat channel that is used nearly 24 hours per day. It is particularly busy each day 8 PM - 12 AM EST, but also has chatters in varying numbers throughout the day.

I'm new at this... I am a parent of 3 autistic children and I work in the schools. I have a concern about a 7 year old boy who has difficulty on the playground. Any thoughts????

Friday or Saturday evenings would be good for me, but only after 9 EST. I've tried entering the chat room just to get familar with it, but it says my user id is invalid & to enter my correct one in lower
case. When I enter it in all lowercase, I get the same message. Any advice? Thanks!

I have been to the chat lounge twice now but no one seems to be there! It has been about 10.30 at night, i would love to chat to other autistic parents so i do not feel on my own.

I've stopped by the chat room several times, but have never seen anyone else there. I'd love to chat with other parents, that's what first drew me to this site. I'm usually available at night, probably around 10:00 or so. If anyone else would like tochat, send me a private message, maybe we could set up a time.

Every time I try to chat my computer tells me I need to download something and then it never downloads and nothing else happens. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

I have also trid to use the chatroom but didn't seem to get anywhere. It usually just says put one question in and then wait, or tells me I,m not registered properly. However as I am in the UK the times I may go might not be suitable to people in USA, but I just try and go on several times thoughout the day and late evening.

Well, I'm on the net quite a bit myself. You could check out www.autistichat.net/feature.html. I am usually there at just about all hours of the night. If not me, then its often someone else. You do have to be patient there, though. When I'm there, I might be looking at some web sites or otherwise reading. give it some time, and I'll respond. I hope to see some of you there.

Hi Dave,
I'm a new user from San Diego and very impressed by your website and service it provides. At 18 months my son was diagnosed with a profound communicative disorder. After the whole gammat of testing (e.g., X-chrome, hearing, developmental, ELISA, Spec-scan), diagnosis (e.g., Autism by Brynna Segal PhD, UC San Francisco, Tristam Smith PhD (understudy of Ivor Lovaas), Laura Schriebman PhD UCSD and many others. We tried many therapies in conjunction with law suit against our school district with Valerie Vanaman of Encino and Katheryn Dobel Berkely as our legal counsel. We prevailed after 16 months of hearing concurrently with personal and beurocratic stresses of death, disease, divorce, deceit and depression while achieving a precedent setting 40-hour ABA program in Southern California. Hearing Decision (1996) available at the McGeorge School of Law.
Flash forward, my son is now mainstreamed in the 5th grade with accommodations. Last year, he won a quite prestegious award placing 2nd in our county his poetry submission, giving an acceptance speech which he wrote entirely on his own.
While 2 of 16 maladaptive behaviors exist, he no longer fits the standard Autism profile but are addressing adaptations as we are faced with the progression of educational demands.
To keep all the plates in our lives spinning, I had withdrawn until my medical retirement from the support groups I had been participating in; a condition that I learned last year my son also has.
Well that's the long story short. If I can be of support or if anyone has any next-step insightfulness, please feel free to write.

Sincerely,

Terri of San Diego

I regret to inform, Autistichat.net is no longer functional. The owner of the domains autistichat.net, autistichat.org, and autistichat.com asked me to remove the content for undisclosed reasons.

I have added a new web site: http://www.autismforum.net which currently has chat rooms available, both for PC and WebTV users. Feel free to join if you wish.

I don't know why you can't connect to the chat room, Ango.

Which link are you using?

I seem to remember that I had to download something when I tried to use it a long time ago, but nobody was in there anyway.
