Do you have trouble making friends? Do you have difficulty looking people in the eyes? Do you have trouble knowing what to say when someone is bullying you? Do you have difficulty expressing yourself?
Asperger's Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism are not "Bad Attitude" problems but neurodevelopmental disabilities that impair the very parts of the brain that allow people to communicate, make friends, and survive in the everyday world. Since the dawn of time, sufferers were dismissed as being merely antisocial, unmotivated, and noncompliant. Fortunately, modern science has recently started to acknowledge the existence of these disabilities.
In the San Francisco Bay Area of California, a support group has been formed to provide not only emotional support but also a positive and constructive environment where sufferers are encouraged to challenge and apply themselves. Sufferers? Yes, we all suffer from AS now, if you say so- it has nothing to do with society's ignorance.

Hi, this is my first time ever being on a chat site. I need some advice for my son who is 11 years old with aspergers and is going through a rough time right now.

Can you be more specific? If it's a problem with self-esteem, look here:

To accuse Aspergers as a curse or to blame it for life's troubles is to not understand what it is about. This article makes things clearer.
I sure hope I am doing this the correct way. I have a grandchild that is in my custody I took her in for a neuropsych exam. I questioned asperger because of a lot of research on her, and the way she is I was questioning what they had already diagnosed her with. Well her evaluation says that she has all the classic symptoms of Asperger but she has no intense interest so they changed her diagnoses again. Is it possible to be Asperger with out an intense interest? She is going in soon for a neuro exam and if I am still not satisfied I am thinking of maybe taking her to Boston. As a parent you get that feeling in your gut that they are missing something. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi Caroline,
Of course it is possible to have Asperger's syndrome without having an intense interest. Some people with AS have intense interests, others do not.
I don't understand what they are talking about.
Is the other diagnosis they are suggesting PDD-NOS? (Pervasive Development Disorder Not Otherwise Specified) Because that means pretty much the same thing, but not exactly.
If I can find more information, I will tell you.
