Hi,

Sounds like you need to find an Asperger's Syndrome support group. We have a few here in Massachusetts. Call your local ARC, ask them who locally supports autism, call them and ask about Asperger's resources.

I suggest you read the Tony Atwood book. Also read about "mind Blindness."

Regards,

Hi, I'm Laura, Frankie's mom.

First your need to find a pediatric neurlogist for a formal diagnoses. He/she can also deceide with you what medication if any is needed. Morgantown is your best bet if your in the western side of WV, The Kluge Center down in Charlottesville, is your best bet if your on the eastern side of WV.

Has the school done any evaluations or are they waiting for a formal diagnoses?

I work with Dr, Susan Anderson at The Kluge Center in Charlottesville, she wonderful, empathetic and has been great with Frankie. Frankie also qualifys and receives Title 19 Waiver, which would supply a case worker, behaviorist, psychologist, and nurse, along with a state medical card.

My Title 19 Waiver is handled by Potomac Highland Guild. If you need to be referrd to an agency to help, call the Autism Training Center in Huntington, toll-free in WV 1-800-344-5115. They can help you with loads of information.

Just hang in there a breath, you have a lot of phone calling, websites to search on top of everything else you do in a day.

Also check out WV Parent Training, my contact is Faith Merryman, you can email her to get the right direction for where you live merrymanf@aol.com

Aspergers is primarily a very high-functioning end of the autism spectrum, so just like with autism, you'll have to treat the symptoms and behaviors. I wouldn't necessarily be too quick to jump at whatever medications are thrown your way, there are alternatives that you should probably try first.

If his IQ is very high and he can be taught to tell time, buy him a watch and teach him to use it to help with his sense of time. The hyperactivity, sound sensitivity might both be impacting his ability to maintain in busy social situations, develop and understand speech. Auditory Integration Therapy can help A LOT with the sound sensitivity and gaining language, may also see improvements in other areas. Both however, can be caused by mercury poisoning, which he may have gotten from his vaccinations over the years. Chelation Therapy might help with all of the above.

There are many dietary changes and supplements available that can help a lot with they hyperactivity, as well as a whole range of other symptoms. Check out the following website and bookmark it for future reference... http://www.autism.com/ari/ ... it is the Autism Research Institute and has been my bible for autism. For more information on current issues and research go to... http://www.feat.org/ . For information on autism caused by vaccine injury, mercury, treatment options, etc. try http://www.safeminds.com

In the meantime, find your local Autism Society chapter, join it and find a support group. They will be your BEST local resource and give you other parents in the same situation to talk with and help you keep your own sanity.
