Hi,
I am inquiring concerning my granddaughter, age 10. She began her menstrual cycle in 10/04. She did not have another one until 04/05. This one has lasted approximately 13 days with signs of a very small blood clot. Any information will be appreciated. Should she see a OB-GYN or pediatrist? Has this happened to anyone else.

Thank you!

Hi,
I think a pediatrician would be more appropriate for your granddaughter.

I sent you a private message with more information. You can click on the blue words "Private Messages" near the upper right corner of the screen to see it.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I agree with Lisa, a pediatrician would be more appropriate for your granddaughter. My daughter did have that same problem, and our pediatrician said that a girl's first menstrual cycle is normally irregular the first year, it will become more regular as the second year approaches..
But it's still good to get your doctor's opinion. Hope that helps.

My daughter also started at 10 with similar symptoms. It has been our experience that the first cycles can be irregular in both time and flow amounts/clots. She became more regular after her first few cycles and we no longer have issues.

I would talk to the pediatrician if you feel the need to see anyone. I my opinion, I think it's a little too young for an OB-GYN, unless referred by the pediatrician.

Hope that helps!
