hi everyone,

i have a question. I have a daughter with autism, she is 16 years old now. She can talk and even make conversations (simple) but she cannot read or calculate. My question is how do i teach her? My wife tried to teach her in many ways but still nothing and she almost gave up. I have asked my daughter if she wants to learn that and she said 'no'. I said what do you want then - she said watch NASCAR cartoon. Well, so here i am trying to teach my daughter counting and reading while she does not want it.

I know this would be a hard question for all of you and there no simple and easy replies but i want to hear your experience if you any of you succeded in teaching your child with autism to read and count.

thanks for reply and info.

We live like in another world - Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan :) So i guess guys from Florida will not fly. My wife does it daily for several years already and still nothing. It looks like she knows numbers and letters but she is bored with it. She like computer games but i did not find any that would actually teach reading and counting. And nascar thing - trying to thing something out of it but nothing comes to my mind :)

wish me lucky oh yes, i do.

I will email your manager and see what can we work out.

Thanks a lot again.

I used the LeapFrog DVDs (Letter Factory, Talking Words Factory, Code Word Caper & Math Circus). They have been such a huge help because he can sound out his letters...now when he's trying to pronouce a new word and keeps getting it wrong, I write it on the chalkboard and we sound it out together. He's also counting things now.
