I display autistic charachteristics, such as difficulty maintaining eye contact, and my senses are really tuned in, so I do not like loud noises or to be touched without seeing it coming, as it hurts. It was also hard for me to express myself.
That all changed the days weeks, months and two years after the events of June 7th, 2003. I attended a wedding reception. While there, I became an uninhibited dancing fool! I had myself the greatest night of my life! Soon after, I was giving compliments, and at least I tried to be better about the eye contact issue. But my BIG advancement was/is writing, especially poetry, especially about love. With this writing, I have found it to be more easy to express myself, verbally as well. One example is I told my friend, (the bride at the wedding/reception who 'forced' me to go in the first place) that I love her. I indeed love her like a sister or cousin. I also have told family that I love them as well. Of course I still hate loud noises and being touched, (except when that touching is hugging my friend or my family) but other than that, I am almost a completely different person. I consider my writing to be very therapeutic. Greg.

Hi, Nicole. I wouldn't be able to give advice about a child who bangs her head, I only know how it feels to be shy and to keep my feelings bottled up. Wether or not writing would be a way that the girl could 'speak' and tell her feelings, I don't know. I always was writing letters to my family. especially my grandma, but I did not take that any further until after the reception. As a child, I never threw tantrums, or was really quiet. A person would possibly be surprised if I were to tell them that I have autistic tendencies, as I do really well for myself. By the way I am 29 yrs. old and have been living on my own for over seven years now. Greg.
