This is all new to me. My son is 5 and has been diagnosed with HFA. He lives in California with is dad, I am in Virginia. I will be moving there ASAP, but I need to know more about this and if there is support out there. I am having a hard time dealing with not knowing what is going on, but I am not one to talk much about it. I am just wondering if there are other moms out there in my p osition, or that can help me, moms or dads. Thank you, Niki

California is one of the hot spots. Lots of diagnosis there.

I know there are alot of services set up there but I hear there are lenghty waits for many.

Do some research online and try to get into as many wait lists as possible.

Also, DAN (Defeat Autism Now) doctor should be consulted if you can get into one.

Maybe someone from the area can comment more on services in California?

well, your not alone.I'm ayoung mom of two .And this is my first year with autism with my daughter. She is 4 year old and has pddnos but is more high functioning side.her memory is her gift and letters too.in memory her iq is of and 8 year old . but her sensory part is very serve in the textile area. and her lang is very bad to .but is speaking now.About 7 months ago she wouldn't .I live in tampa bay flordia. And help is out there but for me it;s finding friends is the problem that wouldn't diappear after knowing of sabrina disoder. And do to my age .I'm 25 years old. and support groups in tampa with other parents are hard to find. But I heard jesey, cal, vir,and tenn are the best areas for help. Well if you need any info or help write to me.I'm going to a workshop in july for autism it's a 4 day one. I also want you to read the book callied the out of syn child .you can get it in any book store in the parenting area and add area. this book will help you understand the behavior part and what is your childs problem in their environment. But you need to read it from the begainning. high functioning part of autism is hard to understand but look in to ager. disorder and pddnos.high functioning just means that they can do more things then achild with autism can do and thier sensory part suffer the most of all. hope this helps some .and good lucky. nicole and the weaver family

Hi, I live in San Diego and have been told my son is PDD-NOS. There is the Regional Center, the School dis. and the all powerfull IEP. There are awsome people with Childrens hospital. It is true that there are a ton of help in California but some very long list's. If you are with a HMO or PPO depends on who you call to get in with who you need to see. If you let me know a little more, I can tell you some more info. I work in HR so I know my way around the HOM and insurance maze.
