Could we add a section for support groups please.

Great Idea. I would like a live chat to talk with other parents and directly ask questions and get a response.

Sounds like a good idea. Did you have anything specific in mind or just a forum for support groups? The chat room is operational, the link to chat is the first forum link.

Thanks,
Sean

I just thought were support groups could exchange ideas around the globe and share the support they offer to their members and links they have to other like minded organisations.

Or a site where parents could go and get information about their nearest support group. Maybe it could be set up in countries, districts or whatever for easy identification.

I personally have not accessed a chat forum, so would be a new experience for me. I am very comfortable with emails.

Thanks and G'Day from Downunder

Sounds good, for now I will create a Support Groups forum. If we receive requests to make a forum for a specific support group or region/country, we will.
There are a number of other ways to collaborate as well. We have our own chat room, the bulletin board comes equipped with buddy lists and private messaging (works like email but only to and from autismtalk.net members) and the site integrates with AIM, ICQ and Yahoo Instant Messengers.

How is a support group different than posting or chat? What is an example and how does it operate?
Thanks

You recieve many e-mails from the group. Many topics are disscussed, and can get answers from many people. the difference is e-mail direct to your mailbox.

kjorn,
actually you can receive e-mails from here too. When you start a new thread or submit a reply just make sure the e-mail me box is checked so you will know when anything new has been added to the thread. you can also subscribe to a specific forum if you like. so if we created a forum for an area you were very interested in, a support group for example, you could choose to subscribe to it. so you can selectively choose what you want to receive or how you receive it. we also have a chat room, you simply enter a user name and if someone is in there, just talk away. if you need posting help, here is a basic posting thread I put in the news/articles forum.... http://www.autismtalk.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15
