My son is 13 and when he started middle school last year the boys made fun of him for wearing "whitey tighties". So, to make a long story short, ever since we've been trying different styles of underwear: briefs, boxer briefs, boxers, long, short - you name it. I've been trying to find one that he's comfortable with. But with certain styles, especially the looser ones, he seems to constantly touch and adjust himself.
Now, I realize this is not unusual even for a neurotypical pre-teen. But I have to wonder how much the touching is due to emerging hormones and how much is due to sensory issues. My mother and I have this standing argument. She thinks he's pleasuring himself and I think he's just very aware of the material and how it feels against his skin.
We have decided to go with the boxer briefs that look like spandex shorts. They seem to be best for him. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this or a similar problems. I've been very frank with him about appropriate and inappropriate touching in front of other people - even explaining how if you're uncomfortable you might duck behind a chair and try to adjust without anyone seeing. But we still struggle with this problem.
