:) I am so excited about this new forum!! Thanks again Dave!!

I hope that school is going well for everyone. School for us started, August 8th...way too early.
Our son started 9th grade this year and seems to really be enjoying it.
I was wondering if your teenager has any hobbies or interests that are school related or other wise.

My son plays baritone in the marching band. Music has always been a positive outlet for him. He is also in the National Junior Honor Society club, at school, and volunteers at the library once a week.

Being involved has helped our son socially, in an indirect way. While he doesn't pal around with anyone in particular, he does not shy away from getting involved just the same.

He's basically a homebody, ( like the rest of us ) who enjoys playing on the computer and watching game shows. For a while there, he was hooked on all those poker type shows!

Hi Debbie,
Our oldest who's 11 1/2 plays the alto-saxophone. This is his first year in the marching
band. He plays basketball in late spring and during summer. He was on a swim team this summer. Both boys still go once a week to a social group therapy session. They
have alot of fun and they have made alot of friends. They also like to hang out at home. They like to do stuff using our computer and play video games. Oh yeah, every
Friday a lady comes to our home and works with our youngest for facilitated communication and they play games, they both have fun with her and she gives me ideas on activities and toys to get that Josh can play with without breaking them.
Take care

My son played trumpet in Band in 6th grade, but he didn't seem interested in doing it again this year. He mentioned once about taking Band again, but trying a different instrument. It's like he has no desire to get really good at one thing, he just wants to try out all the different instruments. Anyway, he settled on taking choir instead.

He's also on the Student Council for the first time this year. He has an amazing following at school, but no real close friends. I've tried to get him to participate in Chess Club and Quiz Bowl. But his first experience with Chess Club, he lost the game and he hasn't wanted to try again. And for Quiz Bowl he was told to go into a section of the building that is normally for the higher grades and since he "wasn't supposed to go in there", he never got signed up.

He recently got interested in an online teen community and pretty much spends every spare hour I will allow him to, on the computer.
