Going to through a question out. We just had our annual IEP, everything on it was up to par, except of the OT, section. Was very limited. Didn't address Sarah's weaknesses. I'll explain briefly, Sarah, 4 1/2 years, has weak fine motor skills. Has problems pushing down a pencil, coloring, zipping, grasping, writing, she can however, screw lids, open doorknobs, button large buttons, can put her socks on, can snap, hold utensils, and the like. I don't know what therapies to suggest to her OT, I believe she should know but I don't want to chance it either, since it wasn't written down. I don't want these things to fall between the cracks. This is all pretty new to me as well. If anyone could make some suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it...thanks in advance...Jodi

I know your post was from quite some time ago, but I was going through some topics of interest to me and found yours. My older son is not autistic, but has graphomotor problems. I have spoken with friends who are OT's and have been told to have him work with play doh or clay. (Clay is supposed to be better because it is harder to manipulate). I have also been told to keep stress balls around the house to help strengthen hand muscles. These are pretty easy to implement and just thought I'd pass that info. on in case you want to try it.

Thanks I'm always open to some suggestions, we always play with Play-Doh at home and in school they have been using the extra form of Thera-putty, putting some hidden things inside so Sarah has to manipulate her little fingers about....Jodi
