Hello to anyone reading this :)
My daughter has Sammi has chronic Sinus Infections and we cannot seem to get them under control. Any antibiotic she takes seems to make her throw up after the 3rd day. She usually is sick the whole day. It is almost like she has to get rid of the antibiotics to feel better - does this sound odd?? She gets a rash down below and that is the only other symptom. The only time she does not get sick is when she gets shots of Rosefin (not sure if that spelling correct) rather than oral antibiotics. I have been digging around online and found this site on "leaky gut" and was wondering if anyone else out there has similar issues. I have a friend who has been realy helpful with nutritional info but always will welcome more. I feel like I am on overload with information but I just need to get her help. The sinus infections are constant which makes it very difficult with school (over and above the current problems at school we are dealing with) Any suggestions or opinions, or any information you may have to share would be gretly appreciated. We are at the Dr.s office more than we are at home! I don't mind it - if what we were doing was working but it is not and it is so frustrating! I so badly want to help her feel better without getting deathly ill. Thanks so much for any replies :)

Hi Limabean,
Is Sammi taking an antihistamine every day to keep the sinuses clear? If not, that might help reduce the number of sinus infections. There is a nose spray called Nasonex that might help as well.
I believe that a daily probiotic capsule is a very good idea especially while taking antibiotics and after the course is finished. Catherine takes a probiotic called Primadophilus Junior every day, because she takes daily antibiotics to prevent an urinary tract infection. Antibiotics kill the healthy bacteria in the intestines along with the disease-causing bacteria. If this continues then extremely unhealthy bacteria like Clostridium proliferate, along with yeast because these bacteria and fungi are not killed by the antibiotics. If yeast become too prevalent, they can attach with root-like structures to the intestinal wall and cause leaky gut. So if you replenish the healthy bacteria, they will crowd out the unhealthy stuff, although sometimes some of the yeast or bacteria need to be killed first, but carefully. At least, that is my understanding of the situation.

Hi Lisa and thanks a bunch for all the good info :) I currently have Sammi on something called Lactinex and that is supposed to help replenish the good stuff but I also have been giving her yogart and maybe that is not such a good idea because of the dairy. I have read quite a bit and have been digging deeper into the vitamin thing. I also have her on a Probiotic called Kyo-Dophilus - not on a regular basis though so I better make that an every day thing. It seems all anitbiotics make her sick - usually on the third day and I just wish she didn't have that to deal with on top of already being sick. She is that way with a lot of medicines - it seems that she has such a hard time breaking them down. Does this sound odd? Everything seems to make her sick and I am just wondering what to do. I hate medicine anyways - they all seem to constipate her as well. Very frustrating! Do you by chance know anything about "DAN" doctors? If you do, please share your experience. I am an inforamtion absorber right now - I just want to find out what works for Sammi to make things easier. Your daughter is on a daily antibiotic? How is that working and is there side effects for her? Sammi is only 3 - I just worry so much. I love this site because there are so many people out there to talk to and knowledge is power :) Take care and write any time :)

Hi Shelly,
I'm sorry, I don't know much about DAN doctors, but there must be somebody here who does.
Many antibiotics have the side effect that they make people vomit. The problem is, if they stop taking them too soon, then the bacteria that gave them the infection may not all be killed. The strongest bacteria may survive and grow a new colony that is more resistant to the antibiotic. That's very bad. If it is permissible to give the antibiotic with food, that sometimes helps prevent the nausea and vomiting. I wonder if the Rocephin does not cause her to vomit because it is injectable or because it is a cephalosporin. I know IV Cipro can make you sick as a dog. What are the oral antibiotics they have given Sammi? I could look them up for you in my PDR unless they are very new drugs.
Catherine takes Bactrim every day to prevent a UTI because she has vesicoureteral reflux, which means urine backs up to her kidneys. There is still a chance she could outgrow it, so we don't want her to have surgery to fix it yet, but she may need ureter reimplantation surgery if the reflux does not go away soon. We also have to watch carefully for signs of a UTI because it could quickly damage her kidneys. On the bright side, the reflux used to be on both sides and now it is only on one side.
For a long time, I did not realize the importance of maintaining healthy bacteria in her intestines but now I do, so I tell everyone who takes antibiotics to take a probiotic.

Hi Limabean,
Have you read Children With Starving Brains: A Medical Treatment Guide for Autism Spectrum Disorder, Second Edition by Jaquelyn McCandless? I haven't read it myself but it is supposed to be good and it has information about DAN.
