Hi Puzzleman,

This is really a question to ask Luke's doctor, but I would not give up on Trileptal until Luke tries a higher dose of medication. My daughter Catherine takes 900mg per day of Trileptal and it does seem to help her. She used to take 1200mg per day but we could not really see a difference in Catherine in the effects of 900mg and 1200mg, so we reduced it back to 900mg. For her 600mg was not effective, except it did help her sleep better at night. Children metabolize Trileptal more quickly and effectively than adults and sometimes need higher doses than would be expected based on their weight.

Hi Lisa, Luke started to have severe headaches after we upped the dosage from 600mg. Luke cannot talk but it turned out that when his Mom gave Luke some IB profein his headache went away. And his Psychiatrist is looking at all we are doing it just seemed like a lot of medication. Thanks for the reply I am glad it it working for your child, Luke is just one of those kids that side effects are a problem.
