Nobody posts here. Most of the forums don't show anything because nothing has been posted in 30 days. Is anybody out therrrrreeee.... that can point me to an active autism forum?

Hi Markis,
You asked one question about chelation and you got no answer. I have not tried chelation myself and I do not want to try it on my daughter. I believe if you do try it you are not supposed to have any metal in your body and both she and I do. I have amalgam fillings and metal crowns on some of my teeth and her sternum is wired together.
Did you hear about the six year old boy who died in his doctor's office while he was undergoing EDTA intravenous chelation? I don't think chelation is as safe as its practicioners would have you believe. There is one member who has posted here about chelation on her son who had lead poisoning, but it was done in a hospital. I believe there is another member named DAD who has tried chelation for mercury poisoning on his son and saw some improvement.
If you are determined to try chelation on your son, there is an Enzymes and Autism Yahoo group that was fairly active the last time I checked. There are several members of this e-mail group who have tried chelation on their autistic children, so maybe one of those members can give you some better advice. You need to have a Yahoo account to access it but it is free. Good luck to you and your son.

There are some that for some bizarre reason believe chelation is a great thing and is the sure cure for something that can't be "cured" and frankly, with the dangers involved as Lisa stated with chelation, there'd better be an immediate physical health need to undergo chelation where the ramifications of not doing it are worse than the potential problems of doing it. Those that say, "Oh, mercury MUST be the problem, let's just send our defective kid through this dangerous and horrible treatment in the expectation they'll come out our perfect child that we lost" are wearing rose-colored glasses that hide dangerous reality.
Now, as to "The autism talk froum is a joke" thread you created, well, how seriously do you take yourself or anything else if you can't verify the spelling of "forum" before hitting the "Submit Reply" button? And if this one is a joke, I suggest you go create one of your own.
I would have to agree, very little posting has been going on... I do not think it is a joke though. I am working on a Blogging addition to the site so that all users may have their own Blog on this site if they would like... part of the coding pulls how long they have been a member. It is hard to believe this forum has been around over 4 years. Regardless of its current state, there is a lot of good searchable content on here.
Since the site was hacked and I had to upgrade to a more secure base, I am slowly reworking some things back in and hopefully adding some things that may prove to be useful also. Some of you may notice the Chat button is now back. I haven't made a formal announcement yet, but I think it is ready to go and error free. As previously it joins the IRC chat room operated by the people of www.autismforum.net.
As always if anyone has any ideas on ways to improve the forum... I'm all ears. I do this mostly for you guys and gals.

A lot of us post in the Lounge section. Sure some of the topics could go into these specific categories, but many of us have used this site as a primary support system for years and automatically go to the lounge with issues or topics as we know our thread will catch the eye of another member--often one we have come to know very well.
I am sure if you do a simple search you will be able to find plenty of other forums.
I have looked at a few and I'm sure there is a group for everyone.
But for me, autismtalk has given me much hope, advice, education and understanding and I have no need to frequent any others. I am very grateful to Dave for this forum. I am so much a better person for it. I don't know how I would have coped with all of this for the last four years without my friends here. Obviously, I do post--I'm at least over the 1100 posts mark. Mostly in the lounge area, though.
I believe the slow down in posts is due to the holiday season. A lot of us were dealing with that and now transitioning our children back into school.
If you choose to give this site a chance, I think you will find those that frequent to be very welcoming, friendly and caring. If you choose to find support elsewhere, I sincerely hope you receive what you need.

Lisa, having metal in your mouth is no restriction to chelation. My 74 year old mother had IV chelation done last year for plaque build up in her carotid arteries and she has more metal in her mouth than the Brooklyn bridge.
Markis,
Here is a link to a search for chelation on this site.

Hi Markis,
I don't think this forum or any other is a joke. I don't want to try chelation on my son because I dont think it would workout. Joshua is a very picky eater and I have him on a healthy diet already. He still wants fast food, but he will eat the meat, vegetables, pasta, tortillas, and some fruit. Also with kids dying while using the chelation tells me that its unsafe. I have discussed this method with my sons pediatrician, who has told me that chelation is not necessary for Joshua. By the way we both have metals in our bodies.

If your son has metals in his body, why would chelation be out of the question? There is a growing body of scientific work that would support the idea that even small elvels of toxic emtals impact autistic children's ability to function and that many of these children are unable to excrete these poisons without the use of a binding agent.
I am not saying that your boy needs chelation, just that for a dr. to suggest it is not necessary seems rather unprofessional of them.
Out of curiosity, what metals are present in his body and at what levels?
