greetings:) We have been homeschooling our middle school child but socialization is always a concern (she would rather be in school, but the school doesn't meet her academic or communication needs). Is anyone else dealing with schools in dutches county NY? We have an upcoming CSE meeting to discuss related services, it would be so nice if there was an appropriate program for her to go to but I have been in this district since kindergarden and there never is.
Would love feedback and advice:)
thanks,

We have faced this problem before with our son who has Asperger syndrome. We have tried regular state school and home schooling. Special schools for children with autism/Asperger syndrome also didn't work because his problem is entirely social. We have found that the only option was for us to put him in private school. It costs us the earth but we have seen a huge improvement in mainly his contentment to get up in the mornings and go to school.
We aren't in NY. Actually at the moment we are in the UK but we used to live in Florida where he went to a private school there too with similar results.
The reason the private school is so much better is that the class size is much smaller and the teachers keep it all under control. This means our boy doesn't get so worked up and lose it in class so often.
Unfortunately we had to remortgage the house to send him there, but we are doing this for the next three years until he moves up to the next stage by which time we are hoping he has enough confidence and experience with other children to cope with it a lot better.
Hope this helps :)
Ben
