 Hi all. Just found out about this site. it appears that it could be really good, once more people know about it. Anyway, I'm 36, mother of 3, and live in Australia. My middle child, Hannah, was diagnosed with High-functioning Autism. She is in mainstream school, with an aide teacher for 2 hours a day. she is progressing slowly. she will be 7 this year. Hope i can make some contacts through this site, Bye for now, cheryl

Welcome to the board first of all. I think this is going to be a great community. We are currently adding new forums and other items, so look for some good changes. Sean and I are working hard to make this site the best we possibly can.

Welcome Cheryl,

I'm in Melbourne Aust. Which state are you in?
I have one daughter, Nerida, 4yo with PDD-NOS, an ASD.

This is a great site, I've tried a few, and have ended up unsubscribing to them all!
Mainly because they were too "clicky", and as much as they say they want new members, they certainly don't make you feel welcome.
This one is different!!

Regards,

I am so glad i got onto this site, i think it could be a good one. i still go around to some of the others, and just read what they have to say, but i think because this one is new, i'd like to make it my prime one. I am in NSW in good old new age Byron Bay!!!!!, eveyone wants to live here, i'm getting turned off, as it's just so busy here now, i rarely do anything there except groceries!!!!!!
If you haven't read my other letters, i have 3 kids, and the middle one is Hannah, and she has been diagnosed HFA. Read some of my other letters and it will tell you a bit about her. Is there going to be a time for chat here, or is it anytime???? does anyone know??? Stay in contact ladies, and lets get through this together!!! Cheryl

I happen to have a little inside info on the chat room. (wink) The chat room is always open, the only problem is catching someone in there when you happen to go in there. In the future we are going to upgrade the chat room, so expect some positive changes as far as the chat room. Maybe for now, those who are interested can organize a time between themselves of when they want to have a chat. It's pretty simple, enter a user name and type away....

ok, i will try. Just remember to look into different time zones, as this has been a problem with me in the past, being in australia, and others in the US, we never seem to be able to catch each other!!!!! Cheryl

Hi, I am a mother of 3 boys, 15, 3,and 2. My 2 year old was diagnosed with autism when he was 18 months. My life has changed dramatically because of this. He is non- verbal and has alot of sensery problems. He is a awsome child who has come along ways since being diagnosed. Our life consists of 2 hours of in home therapy a day. In January he will start school a few hours a week. I really have lots of concerns about this just making sure he gets the special help he needs. We live in CA. I would really love to talk to others with autistic children. christine

Hi, and welcome, i am glad i found this site too. I am in australia. You can write anytime. I think it is good to be able to write to one another, and go through things together, it's a big help. My daughter is 6, and it has taken me quite awhile to admit and accept that her life is different from ours. Mine is verbal though, HFA. we are all different, and our kids are all different, but i still think we can all learn from one another. Bye, cheryl

I totally understand what you mean. Same goes for all kinds of forums, be they for parents of children with ASD, or parents in general, etc. They all seem to get kind of comfortable with each other, and you feel like you're intruding on a family reunion sometimes. I really like this forum. Abbycat

yes, if we start right, it should be a good place to be. i know the feeling too with clickiness, but remember, if you have something to say, say it!!!!!, i don;t let the computer scare me as i once did.

Hi, Christine, sounds like you're starting out early, and that's great! Here in NY, the evaluation from various professionals can get you the help you need. A referral is given to the state, which funds the early intervention programs. Totally free. There are probably many EI schools in your area. Ask your pediatrician, maybe (s)he knows.
