Hello. We have 7 yr. old, autistic & type I diabetic. Problem behaviors. Neurologist wants to put him on Risperdal to calm down. Anyone know anything about Risperdal? So far, what I've looked up doesn't sound so good. I'm not so crazy about drugs, anyways. My husband says to stop spoiling him, and make him do things, make him behave, see if that works first, B-4 meds--I do let him get away with a lot. But I get so tired of yelling all the time. He says to be firm like they are at school. He Does do a ton more stuff for them, than at home. Meds scare me, he's already got verbal tics leftover from a 2-month trial of Tenex this summer--doc says no, it's not from that, but I think it is. Can't put him on gf/cf or any special diet, due to his diabetes, which is difficult enough keeping track of carbs & only eating at certain times, etc. Not to mention that all he eats is junk anyways. I do give him multi-vitamins, but big whoop. Anybody know of other alternatives to help with behavior probs? He's slightly verbal, with 95% receptive language skills. Very demanding little guy, like his dad! If he doesn't get his way, watch out!!
