I hope that you get something sorted.The use of social skills as punishment is inappropriate.It should not be used as a consequence for incorrect behaviour.xx

<soapbox on>

I think that teaching is one of those vocations where one can, and probably should expect to be held to a higher standard of behavior in some ways.

One of those ways used to be that teachers...I'm talking about professionals now, the kind with Master's degrees...could normally be relied upon to set a good example by demonstrating good spelling and grammatical skills, and their use of language in general.

I recognize that fewer and fewer folks trouble themselves to check their spelling today, and when errors are pointed out to them, they're likely to place the blame on their own failure to make use of assistive technology such as spellcheckers. I don't know how our parents and grandparents ever got by without them - the excuses, not the spellcheckers.

Perhaps TeachSPED does face some challenges that make correct spelling difficult. To be sure, folks with special needs often have to compensate in one way or another. If I had trouble with my spelling, and despite this handicap, decided to wear my teaching credentials like a badge while posting on the Net, I would compensate by typing my posts in Word, running spellcheck, and then cutting and pasting the result into my posts.

Joan, I don't know enough about your situation to talk intelligently about it, I hope it works out for you. It sounds as though outplacement may be an option. Let us know how it goes!

Carl

I talked with two moms of teens with autism in that district, one who teaches in that system. I think it's a better option for him than what he has.
We'll see what God has planned for him. I think since there isn't anyone with training in autism there at the past district we should be able to get them to pay for sending him where there is some help.

We're invited to the autism support swim party - so I think I'll go and reaquaint myself with my old buddy moms.
