Post frustrated and angry
My son is 3 yrs old and was diagnosed with HF autism. He's IEP stated that he is suppose to be getting 1 hour of non public agency Speach services. This was in Jan. The district sent me a letter to contact different agencies for services. Each agency has told that there is a 6 to 8 month waiting listing for services! It is now April and i still haven't gotten any help for my son. My son has gone from 2 tantrums a day to 5!! I think alot has to do with him being frustrated because we don't understand him.

He has a great teacher who tries and help. But she has 13 other boys in the class. There is only so much she can do. The teacher let me know that if I couldn't find services that the district had to provided it for my son in school. So I went and spoke to the principal. I have never felt so unwelcomed in my life. I wasn't prepared to fight. I was just there to ask if they could make room for my son. The principal got very defensive and told me that my son was not a priority because he was only 3yrs old.!!!! In her opinion he shouldn't be getting any services. She let me know that an hour of services wouldn't make a difference anyways. I just stood there in shock. I have never had anyone yell at me that way. I was so angry that I was speachless. This lady then proceed to call my son's teacher and belittle me.
Any ideas on how i can deal with the principal from hell?? Or on how i can get my son's services??

Hello,
I'm sorry you had to be put through the ringer like that. When any school employee does that to me I report the incident to the district supervisor and the special ed program director. I don't know how things work where you live, but your son is a top priority especially now that he's 3. I went through something like this 2 years ago with an irrate school secretary who reaMed me over the phone because my son does get sick alot and he does miss about 30 days a year, anyways I called the principal later that day and recommended either you go to a asa conference and take this mean women with you to get educated o0n autism and all the federal laws or quit your job.
I did file a report to the district supervisor and the District attorneys office. After that we get the respect we should get like everyone else. The school district does have to provide speech anyways besides outside agencies, it might help to request an IEP meeting-it never has to be just an annual on either. Your sons teacher should have a form for you to fill out and the teacher submits it. Also its better to deal with special ed administrators than the general ed. Well good luck I hope this info. is helpful I know its very hard in the beginning. Take care.
